It had been 3 days since the death of her husband and king. She had never truly understood everything he had done for the kingdom until he was gone, and now that he was, it all fell on her shoulders.
The Queen put her normal crown aside for today and placed the black crown on her head, because today was not a normal day. As she walked out her door, and down the long hall, all the sound in the room slowly faded away as all the onlookers fell silent.
As she stepped up to the thrones she reached down to the table for the spherical container that sat between them. Inside the container resided the only remaining piece of her husband.
She placed her hand into the sphere and without even touching it, the snowflake started to move with her. She turned around, and with the snowflake floating above her open palm she began to walk back down the hall. As she walked all the drummers of the immortal army began to play along with one lone woman who had begun to sing.
Everyone followed her as she walked. They followed her down the hall. They followed her across the courtyard. They followed her to the tallest tower, and all the way up the winding stairs to very top of the tower. As the singer concluded her sad tune, The Queen raised her open palm to the sky and she felt whatever had been bonding the snowflake to her, release itself, and slowly the snowflake began to ascend into the sky.
