Wind Fish 05:15
The seas had been calm for days, but the clouds were coming in so fast that nilk could swear they were alive. In a matter of minutes the brightness of the day was gone, there was barely enough time to light the ships lanterns before the blanket of darkness covered the seascape. Off in the distance nilk spotted something glowing in the darkness and changed course to investigate. The storm seemed to be growing exponentially with each passing second. A white flash of light illuminated everything for an instant and then a thunderous crack exploded from the stern of the vessel. Nilk turned to find the back of his ship on fire. A bolt of lightning had decimated the backside of the craft. Turning back towards the bow, nilk gaped in horror upon seeing that the spot where the glow was originally had been replaced by a whirlpool with a massive sphere in the center. Without any time to brace, the ship breached the edge of the torrent and he was flung from the vessel. Nilks eyes shot open. The storm and sea had vanished, and now all that stood above him was a wood ceiling. He was safe in an unfamiliar bed. Turning to his left he found a young girl at a desk. Upon noticing his movement a smile splashed across her face and she shouted to someone in the other room. A mid-aged man walked through the doorway. They introduced themselves and explained that they had found him washed ashore amidst the wreckage of a ship. The only thing they recovered was his shield, which they posited as the thing that had kept him afloat while he drifted on the sea. They then turned the questioning to him. Nilk explained that he was an adventurer from the kingdom of continuum and that his ship had been sucked into a flash whirlpool. The two looked at each other and then back to him. They asked if there was anything else he could recall? It wasnt until that moment that he remembered that as he was falling he looked up in the sky and he could have sworn he saw three sets of colossal black eyes looking down on him. This response garnered an even more peculiar reaction from the pair / extreme interest mixed with skepticism /. Nilk began to feel awkward and in an attempt to extricate himself from the situation, asked for the location of the beach where he was discovered. The mid-aged man gave him some hesitant directions and nilk was off. The moment nilk walked outside, the gaze of the towns people was on him. Their looks followed him wherever he went, as did the remnants of their whispers. This would bother some, but to nilk it was commonplace. When he was only a babe, nilk was abandoned in a small forest just outside of continuum city. A young couple found him and took him in. His adoptive parents were good honest people, but he could tell they never really understood him, and when the couple had a child of their own, their focus left nilk almost entirely. While nilk was a humanoid like all the citizenry of continuum city, his appearance was notably distinct. Most of the people had rotund soft features, but nilks were angular and sharp. He always stood out in a crowd. As soon as nilk was old enough, he enlisted in the adventurers guild, hoping that he would discover the camaraderie and excitement that all the adverts promised, but the result was the same as always, people seemed to like him, but he could never make a real connection. The only person he ever really called friend was a new recruit he met 3 years ago named Aren. Nilk was a natural hard worker and was promoted very early in his service. He was given a leadership position and immediately burdened with a unit of noobs. Aren was the worst of the bunch with little-no natural skills, but he molded her into a perfect adventurer. They shared a love for local theatre and spent hours talking about past productions theyd seen. While they werent main mates, he felt like he finally succeeded in attaining a friend. After only commanding his unit for a year, the higher ups offered nilk a chance to be one of 6 adventurers to spearhead their new sea scouts division. Him and 5 other brave souls would all receive ships that could be operated by a single individual and then they would all be sent in different directions in an attempt to discover the secrets of the greater world. It seemed like an interesting opportunity, the only wrinkle was aren. The next day, after he and his squad had completed their daily assignments, nilk went to talk to aren. He told her about the position and said that it would probably be years before he saw her again. Aren said it sounded cool and told him to have fun. Even though nilk never felt any romantic feelings towards aren, her apathy was an iron boot on his fragile heart container. The interaction steeled his resolve, and he immediately went to his higher and accepted the position. More isolation was not we wanted/needed, but there was no reason to stay, but. This wasnt the time for retrospection, so nilk returned his attention to the task at hand. The beach was only a little way outside of town, and nilk was there in no time. Besides a couple planks here and there, traces of the ship were almost nonexistent. Nilk was about to head back when he spotted a small rock cluster by the edge of the beach. When he walked over, nilk found one of his supply chests half buried in the sand. It took a minute to unearth the chest, but once he did, he quickly rummaged through its contents. It was mostly nautical navigation instruments, but deep at the bottom he struck gold when he found his monowave! He had remembered packing it, but it had remained lost until this moment. Nilk wondered to himself how it got buried so deep inside the chest, but it didnt really matter, he was so happy that he held the monowave straight up into the air, as if to show some unseen observer above him the item he just acquired. After stowing the monowave safely in his beltpack, nilk noticed an alcove in the rock wall that lined the edge of the beach. There was a sort of thorny bush inhabiting the recess, and nilk could see there was something behind it, so using his shield he plowed through the abrasive bush. The alcove turned out to be a short tunnel that lead to a secret grotto. Inside there wasn’t much beside more sand and water until nilk spotted what seemed to be a small cross jutting from the ground. Nilk walked up and pulled it from the ground. It was a very old, very plain sword. Upon returning to town, he showed his newly acquired items to his rescuers. They were intrigued by the music the monowave made, but once he pulled out the sword their eyes went wide. The man instantly grabbed it out of his hands and started examining the sword closely. After a minute he returned the sword. The man explained that what nilk was holding was the long lost hero sword, and that nilk must be the hero/savior from all their myths and legends. Nilk was pretty sure this wasnt the case, but he let the man continue. The man instructed him to go to the temple that sits at the base of the mountain at the center of the island. Nilk was incredulous to say the least ( he kept wondering how no one had found that cave before, it wasnt even that well hidden), but he was always up for helping people and adventure, so he proceeded on the quest despite his hesitations. For nilk, the adventures were never difficult, it was the people. The thing that generally disappointed nilk so much about most people was that they seemed to so rarely actually spend time to understand each other. From what he could gather most people seem to just make you into whatever is most convenient for themselves, no matter how much you prove the contrary. Nilk knew he wasnt the hero they wanted him to be, but it was pointless trying to change their minds. So he always just tried his best. As far as quests went, this one seemed simple enough, just follow the path through the forest until you reach the giant mountain, but nilk was lost almost instantly. Every time he thought he had acclimated in the correct direction he would look up and realize the mountain was behind him again. Nilks frustration was raising quickly, and he was about to head back when he noticed an owl watching him from a nearby tree. It seemed strange that this owl was out in the middle of the day, stranger still, the owl seemed to be staring directly at him. They locked eyes for a moment, then with a hoot the owl took off in the direction of the mountain. Nilk was compelled to follow him. The owl made abrupt strange turns, and moved at a pace that was almost impossible to keep. Finally they came upon a grouping of trees that formed a straight path and the owls speed dramatically increased. Nilk watched it fly away and then looked ahead to see the temple in front of him, the interminable mountain looming behind. Getting inside was easy enough ( there wasnt even a door to obscure the entrance ). Inside nilk realized that calling this a temple was a bit of a stretch, the place was more akin to a dungeon than anything else. The massive entrance hall was dank and dark, and there were chains and old weapons littered everywhere. The only light was from a torch sitting in a sconce to the right of the door that lead to the next room. The dungeon looked as though no one had set foot inside it in ages, and nilk wondered how the torch stayed lit. Nilk walked up to the door and tried to open it, but it was sealed shut. Stranger still, there didnt appear to be a lock or even a handle. It was then that he noticed that there was an identical torch on the other side of the door sitting unlit. He removed one and used it to light the other. When the second torch caught flame a short melody wafted through the air and then a chest materialized in the center of the room. Nilk stood for a moment gaping at the mysterious chest, trying to grasp all the strange things happening on this strange island, and then he put it all out of his mind and opened the chest. Inside was a music box. It played a longer melody than the one that preceded the chests appearance, but it was just as haunting. Nilk closed the box and examined the exterior. The lid of the box had a triangle symbol made up of smaller triangles, on the underside there were 6 lines of what nilk guessed was some sort of music notation. Unsure of how this would help him, nilk returned to the locked door on the other side of the room. Now standing in front of the door nilk noticed that a triangle was etched into the floor directly in front of the door. Nilk stood over the symbol, opened the box and let the music play. The same melody that preceded the appearance of the chest rang through the hall again and the door opened. As nilk adventured through the temple/dungeon he solved more traps and puzzles like the first room, each area raised in difficulty as he proceeded. He traversed rooms with rickety bridges and vanquished creatures he could never have dreamed/nightmared existed. It was dangerous and frightening, but exhilarating. Nilk couldnt help but wondered, who constructed this elaborate labyrinth, and to what end? He hoped that when he reached the end of this adventure, the answers would present themselves. Finally nilk came upon an empty room with a door at the other end. Unlike all the other rooms in the temple/dungeon, the far door was open, and nilk could see daylight on the other side. Nilk breathed a sigh of relief and walked over to the door, but as soon as he reached the passageway the door slammed shut in his face. Nilk whirled around to see a black mass descending from the ceiling. The creature seemed vaguely serpentine in appearance. It had a large spherical center with coiling arms that seemed to be made out of spiraling black orbs. Slowly the spherical center of the beast changed from black to white, and nilk realized it wasn’t its body, it was its eye. Without hesitation, nilk ran towards the living nightmare that loomed before him. The creature caught sight of the rapidly approaching adventurer and swung a coiled arm in his direction. In one seamless movement nilk drew his sword, leapt over the swinging extremity and plunged the blade into the colossal cornea. The creature turned to a puff of black smoke and was gone. The melody from the first room played again and the door opened once more. The door lead to a secret flight of stairs that ascended the mountains southern face. As nilk scaled the steps he started to notice something strange about the mountains peak. Instead of being pointed it seemed to be rounded. After trudging the steps for over an hour nilk was finally closing in on the mountains zenith, he shielded his vision and took another look at the mountain top. It wasnt rounded as he originally thought, there was some sort of oblong sphere impaled on the peak. A few minutes more and nilk reached the summit. To nilks surprise he discovered that the odd sphere was actually an enormous egg. The egg must have been laying dormant for years because someone had constructed an altar around it in the interim. Was this what he was sent here to discover? This certainly wasnt answering all the questions he had about this strange place. Nilk studied the altar that surrounded the egg and discovered another multi triangle emblem engraved into the ground. He stood over the emblem and played the music box. The egg shuddered almost imperceptibly, and then a small crack appeared right in front of nilks face. He played the box again, but this time nothing occurred. Looking down at the music box he flipped it over in his hands and started looking at the notation again. It was an odd form of music, but he believed he could translate it. He pulled out the monowave from his beltpack and began programming. It took him a couple minutes, but as soon he translated the first line he hit play. The melody that emerged from the monowave was the same as what the music box played, and he saw the egg shake again, but this time, no crack. He quickly began programming the other 5 lines of music. After nilk was done, he opened the music box and let the song play for a measure then / in time / hit play on the monowave. All of the elements combined created a beautiful piece of music ( nilk thought it sounded like a ballad he heard once when he was young ). The egg began to tremble again, and the original crack began to expand exponentially. The instant that the piece concluded the top half of the egg burst apart and a blinding light shot out of it. Nilk could only make out the faint silhouette of a creature emerging/growing out of the egg as he was flung from the mountain top altar by the shockwave of the blast. As nilk plummeted to earth his ears became filled with a high pitch cry coming from the top of the mountain. Nilk twirled in the air so that he was now face to face with the rapidly approaching earth ( wishing he had done so many thing differently ), until a rush of aqua passed under him, and suddenly he was in the clouds. Nilk gaped in amazement at the giant cetacean he seemed to be perched atop. It looked like the whales he had seen on the high seas ( and once in the lake behind the castle ), but it was easily twice as large and had a set of angelic wings keeping it aloft. The creature began to tremble ( vibrate? ) and the high pitch tone rang through the atmosphere again and suddenly they were careening back to earth. They passed through the clouds, charging headlong at the peak of the mountain. Any trace of the egg had vanished, a sphere just like the one he had encountered on the high seas had taken its place. It seemed too small for them to pass through, but just as they reached it, the vortex doubled in size and swallowed them whole. It was black at first, and then there was a rush and everything was bright. The scenery around nilk appeared to be moving at a speed beyond his comprehension, but at the same time he didnt feel any inertia pushing on him, it was the oddest sensation nilk have ever experienced, and then it was black again. Nilks eyes shot open. He was suspended in the air and water was all around him. For an instant all life around him seemed to be static. Then gravity kicked in, and he fell into water. Nilk thrashed around until he got his head above the water. He emerged with just enough time to see the winged whale break the cloud line, and let out let one more high pitched cry. He looked to his right and saw a familiar castle looming in the distance. His gaze shifted downward to the small beach below. There was already a crowd forming, and he could see more people coming down the path from the castle, so he began swimming in that direction. By the time he reached the shore half the city had already gathered. As he pulled himself from the water a couple audible gasps could be heard ( assumedly from people recognizing him ). Nilk could feel every set of eyes in the surrounding area firmly fixed on him. He saw one of his old recruits; he was wearing a high tunic. Nilk wondered how he was promoted so fast ( he was always such a slacker ). He scanned more of the crowd and spotted aren a couple rows back. She wore a puzzling expression / somewhere began subtly horrified and grasping for understanding / she looked older than he expected. She looked like she had been through a lot. Nilk continued to scan the crowd. No one said a word. They all just stared. The crowd was making way for something/someone. People were parting to allow a person to broach nilk. The people surrounding him finally broke and the queen stepped forward. She seemed to recognize him, but he couldnt recall ever actually speaking to her ( he had seen her at a couple guild functions ( he had always liked her, certainly more than that buffoon of a king ) ). She stared at him, they both knew what the question was, there was no point in asking. For the first time in his short/long life every one wanted to hear what he had to say, but all nilk could think was… how do you explain that you just rode the WIND / FISH?

She was 1 of the un/ucky ones. She was also getting tired of playing her wavatar on the side of the street & decided she might as well leave because nobody was leaving her any dits anyways. So she packed her instrument, zipped up her plastic coat & headed across town. She was sad as per usual, yesterday had been her birthday & she had spent it alone ( birthdays were never great for her growing up so she didnt expect anything really, but somehow she still felt it more ( the loneliness that is ), but nowadays she was always alone, also now with regular frequency she would jolt awake at night after having dreams/nightmares of that day 3 months ago when a sortie from the dark palace ransacked her humble hideaway nestled in the mountains. A couple of her friends got out like she did, but most were either detained or killed. That mountain hideaway had been her sanctuary & it was also the first time she had been clean in as long as she could remember. It took her 2 weeks to find the seedy little town she was currently laying low in & on the second day she was already so stressed out from keeping an ever vigilant eye out for the palace patrol that she had to score some flooid capsules just to settle down her screaming nerves. She had managed a year & a half clean in hideaway ( the shakes were an absolute bitch in the the beginning, but she persisted ), it was the most lucid & content she had felt in her entire life, which wasnt saying much because her life had been fairly abysmal up until that point. She was what was commonly called a flooid baby, due to the fact that her mother was severely hooked on pure flooid all throughout her pregnancy. When she was born she had to be fitted with an injector in her arm because at 6 weeks old she was already going through intense withdrawals & the med-bots were afraid she would succumb to the pain unless they could ween the toxic stuff out of her system with anti-floo. She was 13 when she first tried flooid on her own, just after her mother ODd when mom finally graduated from flooid & started injecting straight hypr ( her father had never been in her life ). As she walked across town she kept flashing back to that deadly day at hideaway. The scene that had been seared into her mind was when she watched ( hidden in a toilet ) a patroller wrestling with her chum chez on a high bridge. Chez was struggling against his opponent & was even able to wrestle the patrollers stun gun into his hands & turn it on him, but before he could pull the trigger another patroller snuck up & clubbed chez from behind, the two took a moment to collect themselves then causally kicked his lifeless body off the side of the mountain. As she walked silently through the grey streets smoking a stim stick she cursed that fucking phaser who brought that dimensional drifter into her town. She knew that lil punk was trouble from the get go. She ducked into a subtube to save time on her cross town hike. The tube was mostly empty expect for a couple floozies slowly shuffling to keep themselves from full body lock. She knew that would be her eventual fate, but she just could not seem to muster up any sympathy for them. The tube let her out just 3 blocks from the spot downtown where her hook-up posted up. The pusher ironically set up shop in a dark alley behind a church of the Infine. Her mother had been a disciple of the infinite when she was a child (& by default so was she ) but seeing the church fail them over & over again while her mother was trying to kick her 4x a day injection habit really left a sour taste in her mouth. Deep in the back or her mind there lived a belief that the Infine were real, but the actual organization around it seemed to be complete bullshit in her estimation. Without even looking its way she casually elevated her middle finger as she walked by the enormous crisscross haloed in green that was erected at the front of the building, then snuck around the rainbow tinted ornamental architecture elements that encompassed the church cloister to the back where she found her hook-up. The flooid dispenser was a dark wiry man with a cool looking heavy jacket & long black hair that covered ½ of his notably pale face. She had scored off him before. He was expensive, but his stuff was quality ( she hadnt had a rejection even once using his junk ). He sported a small green drop pin on his left breast pocket ( a signifier to anyone in the know that he was a “licensed” flooid dealer ). The dispenser had already sold her enough that he recognized her face so he skipped any pleasantries & she put up 3 fingers ( for 3 vials ), he pulled them out so fast it seemed like a magic trick. She rummaged through her pockets & pulled out all the dits she had on her, but her attention was instantly taken by a noise coming from her left. She turned her head to see a women dressed in priestess robes shouting at them. Realizing the jig was up the dude instinctively grabbed all of the dits out of her hands & took off. Before she could even grasp what happened the priestess was by her side. She instantly began lying about what they had been doing, but the priestess silenced her & explained she was not mad at her, only the filthy dispenser & that she had a disease, the dispenser was only trying to exploit it & that their church had been working on a cure for the blight that is flooid. She was confused, but she followed. Inside the cloister was beautiful, the priestess droned on for a bit about the many benefits of Infine life ( the same empty garbage she heard when she was young ), but after a while the priestess pulled something out of her pocket. It was a blue vial that contained a substance called joy.ce & it was a new form of anti-floo that had some interesting side effects. She was skeptical, but she could feel the flooid shakes starting to creep through her body & the dispenser had taken off with all of her credits so this seemed to be the only solution presenting itself. She poured the new floo into her injector & sat back. The room fell away & suddenly she was in the sky surrounded by beings made of clouds, most were around her height, but there were a couple that were much larger & off in the distance she could see a massive being that towered over everything which she guessed was one of the Trifine. A wave of euphoria splashed over her & all her troubles & pain washed away. The cloud beings were beginning to notice her now. They began moving towards her & embracing her. At first she was weary of their touch, but it was clear they meant her no harm. The group was quickly enveloping her, but she felt no claustrophobia, she wanted more, more connection, more love. She peered up & saw the visage of the Trifine looking down on her & then she awoke. She felt a newness that she hadnt experienced since she was 13.

Ice Palace 04:20
Grand Imperial Ice Lord: I’ve been told you have amassed a selection of secrets from the dark palace & news of the missing prince. Seller of Secrets: Yes, your lordship. In fact the 2 items are actually 1 in the same. Apparently the prince appeared on the palaces doorstep in horrible disarray. Not knowing at the time what they had in their possession, the palace guards threw what they believed to be a lowly outkast into their underground prison to rot, but he was almost immediately jailbroken by a phaser who had been secretly hiding out inside the depths of the prison. GIIL: Hmmm…. and what of the dark prince? SOS: My original reports proved correct as usual. He was left to guard the vortex to the dark dimension by his mother, the black queen, but when the spectrum prince… GIIL: DO NOT UTTER THAT TITLE IN MY PRESENCE! SOS: 1000 apologies your lordship… When the prince of skull entered the subterranean pyramid they fought ( with the aid of the Immortal Hammer ) & in the end, the pair hobbled the dark prince while simultaneously destroying the gateway inside the pyramid. The hammer escaped, but both princes were sucked into the never ending & fought another battle where the young prince emerged victorious again. 2 more times they met inside the palace & in both instances the prince of skull emerged the victor. GIIL: His power grows even greater than we anticipated. SOS: Yes, & on top that, he vanquished the palaces stone guardian & he did so with the quantum blade! GIIL: The situation grows more perilous with each morsel of info. Do you have news of the princes current location? SOS: A sortie was dispatched to a small town of outsiders in the mountains where he was believed to be hiding. They sacked the town, but they found no trace of the prince. They did however find an old destroyed prism portal in the basement. GIIL: Why would that be of import? SOS: Well see heres the rub. The unit actually appeared to be fine on the outside, but when a tech checked it out, all the electronics had been fried. GIIL: Again, why? SOS: All the parts on the inside looked pristine, but they were all non-functioning. After eliminating every other possibility, the tech determined the console had been phase wiped. GIIL: Intriguing… SOS: For sure. My current working theory is the phaser dumped him into a distant dimension & since phasers cannot dimensionally shift, she fried the console so no one would be able to trace the princes whereabouts or follow him. GIIL: Clever girl. Is there any possibility he would be coming here? We have his fathers snowflake, he could be coming to reclaim it. SOS: Impossible. Those old prism portals dont have the range to reach to our dimension. Most likely the prince is lost in some chaotic fledgling dimension. As for the idea that the prince would make advances towards the dimension of death. I highly doubt it. In the 300 years youve governed the ice palace, none has breached our walls. GIIL: What does the black queen make of all this? SOS: She is an absolute state of fury right now, but she was the impetus for this whole chain of events, so she really only has herself to blame. GIIL: Elaborate. SOS: When she inherited the crown after her mothers passing, the new queen went to an oracle for insight & prophecy on her impending reign. The oracle predicted the dark kingdoms downfall at the hands of the spect… kingdom of continuum. Believing the skull king to be the source of this new kingdoms power, she sent her prince to assassinate the young king, this would later become the event that put the skull prince on his fantastic quest for revenge. Now the 2 kingdoms stand on the brink of all out war! Normally the dark palace would be able to topple any adversary with ease, but the wrinkle that makes this conflict so problematic is the 2 dimensions have wildly different time flow. Continuum Kingdom has possibly the fastest time stream I’ve ever come across & the dark empire is on the slow side. The ratio is something along the lines of 1 month in dark time is equivalent to a year in Continuum. So basically whenever they try & invade they are almost literally fighting the clock. GIIL: That Kingdom is truly blessed by the Infine. Thank you for sharing your secrets. Your information was worrisome & informative as per usual. SOS: And as always, it is my pleasure & duty to serve you my lord. GIIL: Dismissed.

Night 1 It was late & dark, Ash had been working the mines all day & just wanted to go homeward & work in the nocturnal garden, but a curious sound was creeping across the dunes ( a treacherous place at night & to make matters worse there been a number of grandshifter sightings lately ). Despite this, Ash had a sneaking suspicion that whatever was creating the droning tone was in need of assistance & Ash always tried to help those in need. After cresting 3 to 4 dunes, Ash spotted a thin pillar of smoke silently creeping up the dessert skyline. Upon reaching the source, Ash was startled to find a badly damaged diminutive robotic humanoid laying in the sand next to a still slightly glitching dimensional tear. The majority of the smoke came from the roboid, but a small amount of purple/blue smoke crept from the tear. Ash carefully circumnavigated the area, gracefully avoiding the tear like a severed power cable. Ash picked up the roboid & gruffly dragged it back home. Day 1 Ash awoke the next morning to the roboid droning on in the other room. Ash walked into the workroom & began assessing the state of things. Its legs appeared to have been mostly disintegrated in the dimensional shift, the voice it emitted was bizarre & drop pitched. Most annoyingly the roboids arm would not cease twitching & clicking. Ash reached out to examine, but it suddenly spasmed & the mangled plastic coating its extremity cut into the delicate flesh of Ash. At the sight of the injury the roboids eyes flashed pink, uttered something about medicine, then pink light projected from its ocular receivers & in a hot moment Ash was healed. Night 2 While walking the same path taken the previous night, Ash noticed a small crowd of citizens curiously congregating in the spot the roboid had been found in. Ash pushed forward & was shocked to discover the tear had not sealed & seemed significantly larger & higher than the day prior. A couple deputies were hollering at the crowd. They were brutishly inquiring about the origins of the tear. Ash had answers, but was weary to offer them due to negative experiences with deputies in the past. Ash stealthily slipped away from the group & snuck homeward. Day 2-4 Ash had a couple free days after completing his past work cycle & decided to spend the time doing repairs. The roboid ( while still malfunctioning ), had fairly interesting personality protocols & was generally pleasant to be around. After just a few short days the robo became part of the daily routine. Night 5 Ash started a new work cycle that morning & was exhausted upon return to the domicile. Relaxing, Ash viewed a local info program. There was a feature about the tear. A science pro explained that the tear was beginning to become a serious problem ( wide spread time destabilization ) & conjectured that whatever came through hadnt left yet & its continued presence in this dimension is the reason why the tear refuses to mend. Day 6-16 Ash would go to work, then come home & recount the days proceedings to the robo, then theyd watch some wave viewer & shut down. This patten occurred for several cycles, until 1 day Ash noticed the robo wasnt responding quite like it used to. After night 14 it could barely conjure together more than a monosyllabic response. Ash had done a lot of repairs to the roboid, but Ash could not risinigrate its legs & the voice box was still constantly malfunctioning. Something would have to change. Night 16 Instead of consuming supper & watching the wave viewer, Ash suggested that the pair go out for a walk in the dunes ( well more of a drag for the robo ). The pair walked to the tear & stood just staring at it for a while. It had grown considerably in the short duration, easily the size of 5 domiciles & ½ a klick up. Ash pondered how to get the roboid through the hole, but was unable to render a solution. Ash stood continuing to think until a voice boomed from behind: ITS YOU ISNT IT? Ash turned to see the biggest grandshifter ever looking directly at him. Ash could barely utter the words: How, how… did you know… r u a telepath? NO, I SIMPLY HAVE WISDOM BEYOND YOUR COMPREHENSION. At this moment the grandshifter lurched forward & grabbed the roboid, it looked even smaller than usual clutched in that massive mitt. The shifter looked at the robo for a moment, then the expanding tear & without hesitation hurled the robo through the tear. As soon as the roboid passed through the tear, it sealed itself & shrunk down to a singularity & remained static for a moment. Then rapidly re-expanded into a massive spherical explosion that engulfed Ash! Med report 11.18.1096 Patient found badly injured at dimensional tear site. All traces of the tear have vanished & the patient could not provide any explanation for this. First responders on scene found robotic limbs & components strewn about the area ( again, 0 explanation ). Some of the elements have fused with the patients body mass. Responders report that the components actually remain functional & the patient has chosen to leave in the fused elements despite our strong objections.

5.10.1094 I was out in the dunes late last nite, and i ran into my twin brother. He was in his citizen form as usual, and he had something to show me. We proceed to a nearby valley. He tells me to be very quiet, and to make my appearance less conspicuous, so i shrink into my citizen form as well. We knelt behind a rock face and he points out a figure off in the distance. It was a Girl!, brother said that a couple weeks ago he was traipsing through the dessert when a diamond arose from the sand and then shattered. All that remained after the shards had melted back into the sand was the Girl! He remarked on her beauty and began pursuing her. After following her to a small watering hole that he frequents, a conversation was struck up with her. It turned out she is from our families homeland in the north, and she made vague allusions to knowing the ways of our tribe. The Girl! seemed to be conducting some sort of research. Constantly taking notes and measurements. She had some sort of charting device in her left hand and a depth pole in her right. I was unsure what to make of any of this, but he was right about one thing. She was beautiful. 06.12.1094 An old citizen familiar invited me to a soiree at his palace on the outskirts of the city. I arrive late and alone as per normal. When I enter the premises i immediately notice my twin brother in the corner entangled with a new female that i have never laid eyes on before. I walk around and survey the event. Its the usual crowd of well-meaning citizens. A familiar of brothers comes up and begins conversing with me. After a time, he halts our dialogue and alerts me that some female is scoping me hard. He points her out and I recognize her as the Girl! from the dunes. Several times throughout the night he stops our conversation to reference the Girl!s gaze, and finally inquires about what he perceives as a lack of interest on my part. I explain that my twin has already laid claim on her. He seems incredulous and points to my twin still entangled in the corner, and mentions that it looks like he has staked a new claim. 07.29.1094 I have just returned from my annual trip to the south to see my main familiar. Brother requests my presence, he knows of my trip and is interested in hearing of my exploits. I meet him at his normal watering hole. While discussing the particulars of my journey our conversation is interrupted. A female is remarking on the emblem emblazoned on my outerwear. I turn to find that it once again is the Girl! from the dunes. We converse for a short period ( it seems she is familiar with the southern clan i acquired the garb from ), and then both of us are on our way. The conversation was short, but intriguing, I am starting see why brother was interested in this female. 09.21.1094 As of late I have been feeling a restless energy inside me. It is becoming harder and harder to maintain this charade of interloping with the citizenry. I now spend most nights traversing the dunes in grandform. It is oft the only time i feel life inside my body-mass anymore. This place is so enchanting when it is not choked by citizens. I am almost back to my domicile when someone speeds by me on a sandbike humming an enchanting melody. As they pass, the rider turns to look in my direction. It is the Girl! She sees me, but i do not perceive any recognition on her face. This is not surprising. It is rare that a normal citizen can associate a grandshifters native form with its citizen guise. I see that she has just left one of her work sites. I survey the site and find a piece of paper with a drawing of a sleeping girl and a poem integrated together as one. The words and images are appealing so i decide to keep it. As i begin the trek back home, the melody she was humming starts repeating inside my mind. 10.5.1094 The melody is still trapped in my mind. I have begun using my wave constructors to produce a form based around the melody. It seems to help, but still the notes haunt me. I employ a singer to add the lyrics of the poem to the wave form. 10.27.1094 A familiar of a familiar is celebrating the date of their conception and i am socially obligated to attend. I am in no mood for this, but brother insists i accompany him. When we arrive at the diversion station there is a large group already in the process of merriment. I have a hard time working myself into a similar fervor. To my surprise i find the Girl! here as well. She has seamlessly entrenched herself in this group of familiars. I marvel at her ability to blend so effortlessly with the citizenry, an ability i cannot seem to emulate. My twin is feeling ill ( or so he says ), he has scorned one of the females in attendance recently, and the tension between them is palpable. He excuses himself, and leaves me to my own devices. This sort of thing was routine with brother and oft irks me, but tonight it does not seem to have the same effect. I eventually work my way into a conversation with the Girl! and some of her familiars. During a certain story she preceded to press herself up against me while pantomiming a situation, she looked into my eyes for a moment ( i have not been able to get this image out of my mind ). The more i am around the Girl!, the more intoxicating she seems to become. Her smile and laugh are pure infection. Later the night comes to an end, and since brother stranded me here (and i cannot don my grandform around the citizens), i accept a conveyance from the Girl! and her familiars. The ride home is full of revelry, and i am left at my doorstep still swimming in the euphoria of the nite. It has been a great while since i have felt these sort of feeling for anyone, it is terrifying and exhilarating simultaneously. 01.02.1095 The wave form based on the Girl!s melody is complete. I take it to the local wave market. The form merchant agrees to sell my wave. I give him her drawing to use as the visage. 01.10.1095 It is late at nite, and i am traversing the dunes again. Recently i have been compelled to take my strolls in my citizen form. As i pass by an oasis, i notice that someone is sitting underneath the palm by the water. Its the Girl! She is sipping on a stim-stick and listening to her wave player. It is unlikely, but i imagine she is listening to my wave form. The serene moment is abruptly ended when the ground suddenly begins to quake. The Girl! is broken from her aural trance and spies me in the distance, but her gaze quickly shifts to the rippling body of water in front of her. The pool explodes as a colossal sand snake head shoots out the water with its eye fixed on the Girl! It is hard to remember the series of events after that. The next thing i knew, i had expanded into my grandform and i was beating the life out of the serpent. It was massive and its strength was unbelievable, but it had the mind of a beast, and despite all my other shortcomings, my mind is sharp. Every time it lunged at me, i would stealthily evade it, getting in small jabs where i could. After what could have been a single minute or 20 the sand snake retreats. I collapsed from exhaustion and without knowing, revert to my citizen form. I laid on the ground for a minute. I close my eyes for what felt like a second but could have been hours. When I opened my eyes the 2nd moon was starting to set and the 1st sun beginning to rise. Finally I raised myself up on my elbows. The Girl! is staring at me from across the pool. She had seen my other form. So i ran. … because w h o c o u l d e v e r l o v e a m o n s t e r ?

Finn was a complexly simple young man & for as long as he could remember he had been in love with Frances, the twin sister of his best friend Francis, but right now all Finn was thinking about was how a group of dimensional marauders were currently invading his ( up until this moment ) relatively peaceful home. Trying hard to stay calm, Finn silently repeated the serenity statements Frances & him had come up with when they were young to help them deal with their anxiety attacks. Finn stared in horror as a gigantic dark triangular shaped craft slowly descended from space pointed directly at the peak of the beloved mountain that overlooked their modest municipality. Finn began worrying about his family & friends, but then his mind slipped back to the familiar Frances, he was petrified that he might never see her again & thus he might not be able to share the feelings that he had been keeping secret for so long. Suddenly, some civilian off in the distance called out & it shook him from his stupor. Finn sprang into action & began sprinting back towards home. Frances lived an unexpected life. She was born just minutes after her brother Francis to the surprise of her parents who up till that moment believed they were only having a single child. The doctors told her parents that she was unlikely to live due to malnutrition in the womb, but she was a fighter from the very beginning & pulled through. Frances grew. She grew more than anyone else. Frances stood at least half a meter taller than everyone else in her classes. She was notably clever & quick in just about every aspect of life. All the boys were obviously in love with her, but were all far too intimidated by her stature to ever approach her. This would be disheartening to most, but Frances did not care one bit, she had loved one person her whole life, her brothers best friend Finn. She had always hoped/believed that he felt the same way about her, but her guilt towards taking another thing from her brother was more than she could bear. A prophecy had been made when her mother became pregnant that their child would wield the spectral sword that had been passed down through their family since they established the kingdom several generations ago. Everyone always assumed it would be Francis because in their history, the males were always the one that psychically fought the battles, but Francis was average at best & Frances was spectacular at seemingly everything. When the elders voted on the swords bestowment, the vote was unanimously in favor of Frances. Frances stood on the front lines still feeling like a child but ready to do her duty. She held the spectral sword as tightly as she could muster, despite the fact that she was quaking like a leaf. She stared on in horror as the invaders vessel pierced the peak of their beloved mountain & began to crumble. The ship drilled itself deep into the mountain & lodged itself firmly in the devastated crag. Combatants began spilling out of the craft & instantly began besieging the burg. A bulky pale skinned alien attacker bared down on Francis and swung an oversized axe in her direction, she instinctively parried & stuck the sword in his exposed ribcage. The brut turned to a blinding blue color and then shattered into tiny pieces. Francis had lived in his sisters shadow his entire life ( both literally & metaphorically ). He tried to not hold a grudge, but seeing her receive every blessing he perceived to be his birthright really developed into quite a thorn in his side, so when he saw an alien sneak up behind her in the battle, he considered for a moment just letting the events unfold unaltered, but he quickly came to his senses & lept onto the stealthy aliens back & swiftly slit its throat. Frances turned to see her brother drop her would be assassin to the ground, he looked up & gave her an honest smile. Frances saw a look of bewilderment then horror on his sisters face as a spear tip exploded through his chest. She leapt forward in retaliation & inserted her blade into the face of her brother’s killer. The murderer drifted off to the spectral winds as the twins crumpled to the ground together. As Francis laid dying he could see Finn careening down a hillside, rushing to join the fray. He turned to his sister & told her that he knew how they felt about each other & that he hoped they could be together. He told his sister he was sorry for being so distant and thankful for how kind she was despite him not reciprocating the gesture. He knew this was the end of his life, but he also felt it was the start of something much larger.
